Twin Mattress Set
Choosing the right twin mattress set is important for good health as well as a good night’s sleep. Whether it’s for yourself or a loved one, you want to get the best quality you can afford. In order to do that you’ll need to know a few things about how a mattress is built.
Sleeping in comfort started with the ancient Arabs, who tossed pillows on the floor to sleep on. The word “materas”, which refers to the act of throwing, eventually evolved into “mattress” as the Europeans copied the Arabic custom.
What are the common Twin Mattress Set types?
We’ve come a long way from sleeping on pillows and the mattress industry has come a long way from the lumpy mattresses that our grandparents slept on. There are many different kinds of mattresses these days but the most common type is the innerspring mattress. These springs support the body and the heavier they are, the firmer the mattress. The first springs that were used for bedding were adapted from the springs that supported buggy seats and are still used in budget models.

Marshall Coils are individually wrapped in fabric and heavily advertised as the ultimate in comfort. Offset coils are made to hinge so that they conform to a body shape. They are stable, sturdy and give great support. Then there are Continuous Coils, also called Mira-coils, which are one continuous coil from the top to the bottom of the bed in rows the width of the mattress. A twin mattress set with Continuous Coils will provide very good support.

There are air mattresses, too, first introduced in 1981 by Comfortaire; Select Comfort patented a version and began marketing them in 1987. They are very comfortable but also quite expensive. Foam mattresses don’t use springs but have latex or viscoelastic memory foam that conforms to the body.
The foundation is very important to both the comfort and firmness of a twin mattress set. Box springs are a common foundation but provide softer support, a bouncier mattress and contribute to sag. A wood foundation consists of a box with support slats and is often referred to as an “ortho box” by those in the industry. Wood foundations provide firmness, as does a “grid” foundation that is a combination of wood and steel.
The upholstery layers of a mattress provide cushioning. You may hear the mattress core referred to as a “support layer” and the upholstery as the “comfort layer”. There are three parts to a mattress; the insulator, middle and the quilt. The insulator separates the core from the middle, is made of fiber or mesh and keeps the middle in place. The middle is between the insulator and the quilt, made of foam, felt, polyester or cotton fibers, egg-crate foam or non-woven fiber pads. The quilt is the top layer and comes in degrees of firmness. The ticking is the part that you see in the store, the fabric that encases the mattress.
Quality is important when choosing a twin mattress set. A good mattress lasts 7-10 years and memory foam ones last 10-20 years.

Utilizing a Twin Bed Mattress
You can use a great twin bed mattress in many situations. If you have a space crisis in your guest room or teens room, getting a twin sized bed is a great idea. You can even get a lofted bed of this size that virtually takes the space of the bed out of the space usage. You can save a ton of space with this method and teens and adults both love it. Teens fit in a twin bed like they were made to fit them. These beds can be pushed together to become sink-free which makes it ideal for one or two people. This type of bed will end up about the same size as a queen size. You can use these great smaller type beds in dorms and small studios as well. There is no kind of space crisis that this bed cannot be useful for. Making this bed the resolve to that crisis will make it easy to focus on other organizational tools to help prevent clutter. If you have any kind of sleeping space that does not need a large bed (like a single sleeper guest room) this type can be a great choice.
